Date of Project: Fall 2021 - Current

Brymal Plants was brought early into the project as a consult to help bring a sustainable, organic, native plant garden to Olive Pierce Middle School. The project was started out of the necessity brought about by the SARS-19 pandemic for an outdoor classroom which eventually grew into so much more. The students and staff began building and experimenting with garden boxes demonstrating their ability to grow healthy sustainable food. The need for native plants soon became obvious to sustain a healthy pollinator presence in the garden...

Brymal Plants with the help of students and staff installed 120+ native plants. This included a native hedgerow of Sage, Lavender, and Lilacs. The students also employed land stewardship practices by building a wildlife habitat garden consisting of oak logs, and a diverse array of native plants. The students will now be able to observe the basics of ecological function from right inside the classroom.

The students then introduced 20 yards of Remedi-Mulch™ to the entire 90' x 30' area. This began the necessary process of rebuilding the topsoil.

The garden now functions as a place where staff and students can go to amplify their learning or simply relax in the garden.

Brymal Plants continues to advise the project from time to time.

2024 Update:

In Spring of 2024 Brymal Plants together with North County Tree Cutters delivered 16 cubic yards of RemediMulch to refresh and replenish the garden. Dylan from Freshbin.io came along to document how sustainable gardens can improve our community health. Watch the video linked below to see how we grow beauty, organic food, and community at the Dan Langhoff Science Garden.
